WYC Volunteers Assist at Winchester Parkrun
On Saturday June 29th, Winchester Parkrun witnessed a fantastic turnout with 498 runners participating. The beautiful sunny morning provided the perfect backdrop for the runners and volunteers who gathered to celebrate the free weekly 5km which takes place within North Walls Recreation Ground.
The core Parkrun volunteer team were supported by a dedicated team of helpers from Winchester Youth Counselling (WYC). Their assistance was much appreciated and ensured the smooth operation of the run, from providing timekeepers and funnel managers to marshals giving support to participants as they made their way around the course.
In addition to supporting the Parkrun, WYC took the opportunity to raise awareness about an exciting upcoming event that they are sponsoring – the Winchester Half Marathon, which is scheduled for Sunday 22nd September 2024.
WYC was thrilled to announce they were able to offer 10 free spaces for runners interested in participating in the Half Marathon and help raise funds for the charity at the same time.
Hannah Reidy, a representative from WYC, commented: “This was a fantastic event to be a part of. Just like Parkrun, we want to make the Winchester Half Marathon accessible to everyone, and we’re delighted to offer 10 free spaces to the local community. We’re looking forward to seeing a great turnout and hope these spots will inspire new runners to join the race.”
WYC encourages all runners and community members to spread the word about the spaces for the Winchester Half Marathon. Interested individuals can contact WYC directly on fundraising@winchyc.org to secure their spot.
Events like the Winchester Parkrun and the upcoming Half Marathon highlight the importance of community engagement and the positive impact of physical activity. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a beginner, there’s no better time to lace up your running shoes and be part of something special.
