Winchester Youth Counselling: Reflecting on Our Organisational Day
On Friday, 15th November, Winchester Youth Counselling (WYC) hosted an Organisational Day at the beautiful St Cross Symondian’s Cricket Club and its surrounding natural environment. This inspiring event brought together staff, volunteers, and those deeply connected to WYC’s mission, offering an invaluable opportunity to reflect, connect, and focus as an organisation.
CEO, Hannah Reidy, welcomed everyone and explained the purpose for bringing everyone together. Giving an insightful background to WYC and what the organisation hopes to achieve. Jill Guppy, Clinical Lead then spoke warmly and passionately about how WYC came about over 20 years ago.
The day was centred around exploring the roots of Winchester Youth Counselling, reflecting on our collective purpose, and embracing the core values that unite us. Against the backdrop of crisp autumn leaves and open green spaces, we delved into meaningful discussions about the journey of WYC and what drives each of us to be a part of this impactful organisation.
One of the highlights of the day was the chance to experience some of the outdoor activities that we offer to the young people we support. These activities – whether nature walks, mindfulness exercises, or simple moments of connection with the environment – showcase the therapeutic benefits of Nature Therapy. For many attendees, it was a powerful reminder of the restorative experiences we strive to provide for young people, allowing them to reconnect with themselves in safe and calming surroundings.
Time was also set aside for personal reflection. Participants were encouraged to think about their own values and share them, if comfortable to, in groups. This collective reflection not only strengthened our individual commitment but also fostered a deeper connection among the team.
The natural surroundings provided the perfect environment for creativity and collaboration.
The event was also about looking ahead. Together, we considered how WYC can continue to support the young people of Winchester in the most meaningful and accessible ways. The day’s discussions empathised the importance of maintaining a shared vision, and togetherness by agreeing our core values:
- Compassion
- Collaboration
- Curiosity
- Courage
- Integrity
The tree of life, wonderfully created by Rose Milford, Deputy Clinical Lead at WYC, gave a superb visualisation for the core values and growth that each participant is invested to uphold and work with, so that that growth can be further extended in the support that is provided.
As the day drew to a close, there was a palpable sense of unity and renewed energy. The Organisational Day served as a reminder of why WYC exists – to make a difference in the lives of young people, to provide them with a safe space to explore their feelings, and to empower them to navigate life’s challenges.
We left the event with a stronger sense of purpose, ready to continue supporting the young people we serve with dedication and compassion. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making the day such a success. Together, we move forward with a clearer vision, ready to make an even greater impact.
