Resources for Support in Education
At WYC we understand that your pivotal years in education can be demanding. To help alleviate some of the stresses, please read through our Support in Education section.
“As a teenager, it can feel like so much of life is spent at school and college and this can form some of the best parts of your week. However, it can also mean you feel you really need support with your mental health from someone there. Whether you feel like your problems relate to school or things going on at home, there are members of staff and departments who are there to help you navigate your difficult times. It can be confusing knowing who you should turn to. Some schools have flow charts that help you identify which person or department is best for which problem. Others direct you to your tutor for all intial conversations, or perhaps your head of year. Departments can be called Student Services, Wellbeing, Welfare, the Hub or something else similar. These sources of support are usually signposted to you in some way and/or on the school website or intranet, but if in doubt then a good starting point can be the reception team, if you don’t feel you can ask your tutor. Whatever the advice is, if you know you connect with a particular teacher or other members of staff that you will find it easiest to open up to, then reach out to them in person or by email. The best person to help you initially will be one you can communicate with easily so you can open up about your situation and feelings and get the best support.’”
