Movement for Mental Health: A Key Focus of Mental Health Week 2024
As Mental Health Week 2024 continues, it’s crucial to shed light on the significance of mental health awareness and the resources available to support young individuals. Winchester Youth Counselling (WYC) stands as a beacon of hope in this regard, offering vital services to nurture mental well-being among young people.
Mental health is not a singularly directed concern; it affects us all, regardless of age, gender, or background. In recent years, there has been a positive shift towards acknowledging and addressing mental health issues. However, stigma and misconceptions still linger, hindering many from seeking the help they need.
This year’s Mental Health Week aims to break down those barriers and foster open conversations about mental well-being by encouraging movement to better support the benefits of being outdoors. WYC plays a pivotal role in this mission by providing accessible and confidential outdoor counselling services and therapies, accommodating young individuals’ needs, along with our 1-2-1 counselling services.
Our team of dedicated counsellors understands the unique challenges young people face in today’s fast-paced world. From academic pressures to social media-induced anxieties, they offer a safe space for adolescents to express themselves and explore coping strategies.
Innovatively, WYC goes beyond traditional therapy sessions. As well as offering 1-2-1 counselling at our offices in Winchester Town Centre, we also embrace the importance and benefits of nature and movement by offering Walk and Talk counselling and Nature Therapy. The aim is to provide young individuals with support, knowledge, and tools, so they pave the way for a mentally healthier community.

Additionally, we invite any 11 – 25 year olds to attend our Wellbeing Walk-in held at The South Downs Social Bike Cafe (3-4 Kings Walk), every Wednesday from 4-5pm. If you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or just need a supportive space to chat, please come and join us, we’d love to welcome you.
As we commemorate Mental Health Week 2024, let us reaffirm our commitment to prioritising mental well-being for those aged 11 – 25. Together, we can create a future where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported in their journey towards mental wellness. Take a look at our Fundraising page to see some of our favourite ideas to raise some important funds or why not check out our current fundraising initiative, running for WYC in the Winchester Half Marathon? All donations and money received through fundraising go a long way in helping us to support adolescents in the Winchester area.
